It's a beauty!!! A circa 1950 Birks sterling silver engagement ring box with Birks' "double B" logo. 2" base and 1 1/2" tall. Fantastic black velvet pad with a single ring slot and lovely ribbed satin trim. The pad sits over a metal frame (not sponge) indicating that it dates to the 1950s. It also has fabric trim around the ring pad - not plastic. The interior is lovely, just showing minimal wear to the velvet around the actual ring slot. No rips, tears, fading or frayed edges. The outer box has no dings, pings, dents or creases. At first glance (even at second and third...) the box exterior seems perfect but on a really close inspection you can feel some tiny tiny soft spots and when the lid is open and to the light you can see these little marks on the inner lid. They are so light they don't even photograph. Clearly stamped "Birks Sterling" on the bottom. This is a really terrific vintage box. Apologies for the photos - they were taken outside to try and capture the little marks. The squiggles on the lid are only camera glare and reflection from an overhead weathervane.
