Welcome and thank you for visiting Sweet Home Chicago Antiques!
This auction is for a stunning brides basket bowl, which was likely manufactured by Mt. Washington or one of the better glass houses in the late 1800s. The bowl features one of the finest floral spray decorations we've seen in some time. The enamel appears to be completely intact, and is rich and thick. I took a few photos of the glass at the window in an attempt to show you the quality of this piece. The exterior casing is a soft opal white, which has been given a satin finish. It does need cleaning, and I will tend to that prior to shipping. The interior is not a full satin finish, and I want to remark that this is one of the more unusual bowls I've seen. It's not a complete glossy finish; rather the center is more of a softer, muted glass. As I said, very unusual and quite striking. Peachblow is one of the most beautiful of the Victorian glass, and this bowl is no exception. The coloring was introduced in a controlled spread, and the intensity at the rim or crest is magnificent. What I like the best though, is the fabulous raised enamel floral sprays which encircle the walls of this fine piece. The coloring is a soft yellow green, and the fine detail around them is quite something. This bowl measures approximately 8-1/4" diameter, and stands about 2-1/2" tall. The foot measures 2-1/8" diameter. T are no chips, cracks, nicks or signs of repair. This is a beauty to add to your collection, and will stand alone as wonderfully as it would gracing a frame or stand! Feel free to email any questions or requests, but do try to do so before the final hours of the auction so that we have time to answer back.
