Offered for sale is a gorgeous Equestrian Trophy in French sterling silver. The piece stands 9 3/4" tall, mounted on a 1 3/4" red marble base. Thus, the actual sterling silver trophy mesures 8" tall. Around the base of the marble pedestal is a band of French silver, engraved, "Association Hippique de Cambrai. Coup Militaire (Officiers) 1925" The trophy cup is marked with the heard of minerva at two places, and the band is marked with the Minerva head at one point. French sterling marked with the Minerva head is 950 parts silver per 1,000. (American sterling is 925 parts silver). The workmanship on the trophy is of the highest quality, showing elegant beading at the lip of the cup, in a band at the bottom, and w the pedestal joins the cup, and also at the topmost part of the cup. Alongside the beading at the base, and top runs a variation of an egg and dart molding, all crisply done. T is a band of elegantly engraved feathers, about 2" long, that runs along the bottom of the cup w it joins the silver foot. T are four elegant indentations that run the length of the cup, dividing it into quarters. The cut itself is not engraved, and makes a lovely flower vase. The silver band with the engraving has been made to remove easily from the marble base--it is held on by two small pins that fit into two small holes in the marble. Thus, the trophy engraving can be easily removed if the owner wants to use the piece as a vase, without the trophy engraving showing. T is one place on the silver wording band that has been struck at some point in the past; the marble shows a small chip, and the silver shows a roughness of about 3/8 inch. Other than this minor defect, the shows very little wear, with just one very minor ping and a couple of small scratches that I mention only for complete thoroughness in the description. Overall, the quality and condition of this fine example of French silversmithing are excellent. Shipping will be $25.00 in the USA, carefully packed and fully insured. I can ascertain overseas shipping if anyone is interested; I estimate the weight of the piece at 8 or 9 pounds. Don't hesitate to e-mail me with any questions you may have. Check out my other sales, as I am winnowing down a fine estate with beautiful silver, leather-bound books and paintings.
