~~ Fabulous Native American Beaded Souvenir Purse! ~~
I acquired this wonderful souvenir purse from an antique shop recently. The owner said an elderly woman sold it to her, and that woman said her mother had bought it for her when she was a child and wouldn't let her "play" with it -- it had to hang on the wall in her bedroom and remain untouched. ah, such torture for a little girl, but lucky for those of us who love these treasures now, eh? :) These were sold as souvenirs in the early 1900s, handcrafted and beaded by Native Americans as tourist souvenirs. This particular purse measures 5 inches wide by 7 inches tall (including the fringe, but not the beaded handles). The front, side, back and side panels are all in excellent condition. T is a bit of fading, but nothing truly noticeable. Look at the pics and judge for yourself, t are pics of each panel. Both the front and back are purple velvet with similar HEAVY beading, and each side is pink cotton, also beaded. The top (flap) panel is also pink and beaded. T are lots of fringe loops and most are in excellent condition, but two have issues. The strings are t, but the beads have fallen off. Remarkably, t are loose beads inside the bag, so you can reconstruct them with the original beads! Also, for some reason the handle is double-stranded with clear beads and both appear to be intact, but the loops are two different sizes. Not sure why that is, but just so you know. THANKS FOR LOOKING! If you have any questions, please feel free to email.
