This is a beautiful vintage crazy quilt made for the lap. It is 46" X 48" and has almost 300 patched pieces and approximately 22 different styles of stitching created in handmade detail (a couple photos included showing numerous styles). The fabrics are mostly silks, velvets and brocades, and they are lavishly accented with embroidered pictures that include: § Wheat stalk § White roses on a thorny stem § Edelweiss § Small white bloom § Mother and baby (in an early 1800 style outfit - see photo) § Girl with a garden flower (in an early 1800 dress) § Moon and stars § Horseshoe § Decorated urn § Daisies § Bunch of cherries § Harp § Music notes on a staff § Five interlocking circles T is a patch that has painted clover blooms on it, and a patch the size of a tiny artist's paint palette with paint splotches. The quilt also includes a large appliquéd spray of white blooms with embroidery and on one of the corners (see photo)a large, gorgeous, 3 letter monogram,but sadly, t is no date. Of the approximately 300 patches the quilt has 45 patches are in slight to medium deterioration. Of those, 13 are very seriously affected - mostly whites and blues. The quilt has a newer backing and binding made of a firm type of synthetic velvet (?) which could be replaced if desired. Please note, each corner is not a right angle but has a more geometric shape and I don't know whether that occurred when the new backing was added or if it was original intent. and t some of the incredible embroidery has broken strands and missing threads, but over all this is the most striking and ambitious crazy quilt I have seen. It was discovered folded up in a back room at an estate sale! All items are as completely described as possible and sold as is; please ask questions and choose your items wisely. No refunds will be given. Items are very carefully packed and shipped USPS Priority Mail unless requested otherwise. I ship Tuesday and Friday mornings. Only Pay Pal and U.S. Postal Money Orders are accepted. NO PERSONAL CHECKS PLEASE. Payment must be received within 5 days of auction. If you are mailing payment, please let me know as soon as possible after winning auction. I am not responsible after shipping for lost or broken items that are uninsured so insurance of $1.65 per $50 is encouraged. I ship only within the U.S.A. at this time.
