But you CAN eat in style off of this lovely set of silver with this gorgeous set of classic American sterling silverware, secure in the thought that you own something of value. If investing in silver appeals to you, but you're practical-minded, consider this lovely 24-piece set of four Damask Rose place settings. Each place setting is in good estate condition and weighs approximately 225+ grams of sterling, for a total of about 900 grams on my fancy-shmancy Sharper Image scale (a gift). So sometimes, it’s possible to eat off of silverware assets while they appreciate. I bought most of these pieces several years ago, when silver was $8-$10. While we’ve used it, the scrap value alone has quadrupled, and my family has had the pleasure of eating off of this beautiful, elegant silverware. (I recently came by an estate set of 15 place settings, so I now have way too many and want to sell a few.)
