Navajo Native American Handcrafted Clay Pot Pottery *This is a beautiful Navajo Clay Pot. The pottery is all handcrafted design with significant etching of a growling bear highlighting this beautiful piece. This work of art is signed by the Navajo artist.God bless and is signed Navajo. * This piece measures approximately 25 inches around the widest point and is approximately 5 1/2 inches tall. * The Navajo did not develop the art of pottery making until very recent times. Traditional Navajo pottery was heavy and very plain, made primarily for temporary use in water and food storage. In the last several decades, the Navajo have mastered and created a beautiful tradition in artistic pottery. Using the basics of the early pieces and improving the shape, thickness, and firing methods, the Navajo still use the pine pitch to create a beautiful dark brown pottery with smoky whorls of black and red. Other Navajo innovators have adapted the thick walled pitch covered vessel by painting them with traditional religious images and earth symbols creating unique and beautiful forms of art. This is a fabulous piece and is being sold with NO RESERVE!!!!!!
