Gorham patented the "Luxembourg" pattern in 1893 during the Art Nouveau period. The design is organic, floral, highly-stylized, flowing, curvilinear. It is a lovely example of the Art Nouveau movement, which was a radical reaction to the academic art of the 19th century. Individuals such as Tiffany and Lalique interpreted the Nouveau in their own unique manner. This Gorham piece is a beautiful rendering of the period. This Gorham Sterling silver serving spoon measures 8 3/8" long, in excellent vintage condition; surface scratches and light tarnish will easily yield to foam silver polish. Though I'm not certain of the age, I would estimate that it is not far from it's patent date of 1893. It is much more delicately done than the later renditions of this pattern. Though this auction is for one spoon, I do have 2 of them available. My reserve is well below the market value of this piece.
