This 1935 E Star Silver Certificate was salvaged from the shipwreck of the Andrea Doria.One of only 97 1935 E* Silver Certificates salvaged by Peter Gimble's team and graded by PGCS.This certificate received an A grade, and is almost entirely intact, with very minor damage as shown in photos.Piece is in display quality condition and still contains the pamphlet, care instructions, and styrofoam packaging that accompanied the display. Display box shows very minor wear and tear.Overall lack of clarity is the fault of the lighting and camera used for photos. The following is additional information about the Andrea Doria shipwreck, the recovery of the safe, and the various notes contained within, which was obtained from PCGS CurrencyDuring a voyage from Genoa, Italy to New York City, the Andrea Doria and another liner, Stockholm, collided in heavy fog off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts on the night of July 25, 1956. A total of 52 passengers and crewmembers were killed, and more than 1,600 people were safely rescued before the 700-foot long, 30,000-ton Andrea Doria sank the next morning.On August 27, 1981, during Hurricane
