VERY LOW OPENING BID WITH NO RESERVE! For your consideration is a GRAND ARMY of the REPUBLIC (GAR) SWORD With SCABBARD! I know absolutely nothing about swords, so I will describe as best I can what I see.Scabbard measures about 37" long and the tip end is embellished with a contrasting silver color metal "protector" with highly detailed castings of crossed flags on one side & a single star on the other.The sword itself measures about 35.5" long. The blade itself has a lot of light scroll decorative bright-work along with an eagle, a crossed flags, sword over a shield etc. It also reads a;so in light engraved bright-work "Post No. 42 G.A.R Lowell, Mass; Ames Sword Co". The hilt is decorated with the initials "GAR" for the Grand Army of the Republic along with other military symbols such as crossed swords, an anchor etc. The handle also has some great decorative castings...see pictures.The sword & scabbard set is in good as found condition. I've taken many pictures so please view them all & decide the condition & value for yourself. All sales are as-is & final.
