I am from Flint, Michigan, the city Grand Funk Railroad originated. I was fortunate enough to acquire this sign right before I opened my antique mall. The builder of the sign happened to see it while on display, and shared with me a little bit about it's history. At one time, the band itself expressed interest in possibly buying the sign back, but an agreement was never made. This is the original Grand Funk Railroad Stage Sign that was used by the original group in the 60's and early 70's before they stopped performing at that time. The sign was acquired and stored by their friend and accountant, my sister, until I put it on display. Now that I am no longer in the antique business, I have now to display or store it. Also included is a photo of the Flint, Michigan Grand Trunk Railroad overpass that was altered by local fans. The railroad has long since given up its effort to change it back. The sign is approximately 18 foot long and 3 foot high when set up. It is made up of 3 sections, approximately 6 foot by 3 foot each, that fit into a black traveling case. The case is 38 inches high, 79 inches wide, 13 inches deep, and while holding the sign total weight of the case is approximately 250lbs.
