This tea set without the tray sold for $20,000 last christmas before silver prices went up. It is extremely heavy and highly ornate in the most beloved sterling pattern of all time, straight from a delightful Bed and Breakfast, described below. Own a piece of genteel Colonial Williamsburg charm! This auction is offered from our Southern Gallery estate collection. It is from the rather unique estate of a former history professor and owner of an upscale Bed and Breakfast in the heart of historic Colonial Williamsburg Virginia within walking distance of the prestigious College of William and Mary, the second oldest college in the country. We spent some time t with the heirs and learned a little about it's history. The establishment became a favorite of visiting dignitaries of the College, and well-to-do history buffs looking to be pampered in aristocratic colonial fashion after visiting the area's historic exhibits and restored colonial homes. The owners delighted in spoiling their guests with genteel southern hospitality and authentic homemade colonial dishes. The afternoon formal teas in the parlor with homemade pastries were always a treat for close friends and special VIP guests, as were the abundant antiques in the colonial themed rooms, and serene atmosp of the formal gardens surrounding this grand old historic colonial home. Guests enjoyed the bedroom fireplaces on chilly nights, and turn down service with fancy chocolates or other treats. They often awoke to the smell of homemade Sally Lund bread and ate breakfast by the huge open-hearth fireplace in the country kitchen. Dimensions: (all 5 silver pieces are fully hallmarked/stamped Wallace sterling) tea pot 9.5 in coffee pot 11 in waste bowl 5.25 in creamer 6 in covered sugar 7 in butler tray apprx 23x28 inches
