Bullfrog 2 was a festival that Steve Walsh and Bruce Moquin tried to hold at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in St. Helens , Oregon . A few days before the three-day festival was to take place, the Columbia County Fair Board reneged on their contract, not allowing the festivities to take place. The city of St. Helens soon had hundreds of hippies in the town square peacefully demonstrating the cancellation of the festival. They stayed a few nights sleeping in the square, until the Board decided to have the concert in the neighboring town of Happy Hollow . The demonstrators boarded a chartered bus which the city paid for and off they went. Because the original promoters, Walsh and Moquin, had washed their hands of the festival once it was cancelled, the shows that took place that weekend were soon called Bullfrog 3. With an estimated crowd of 6,000, the three-day festival featured the Grateful Dead, who played on Saturday. Although Bullfrog 2 never actually took place, Bullfrog 3 turned out to be a musical success-- and a tragedy nearly avoided. This poster, which measures 14 1/4" x 22 1/2", is printed on orange stock paper. Because the concert was cancelled, this poster has become very rare. Above the "L" in "Grateful," t are numerous pinholes, along with one in the top right corner. T are slight creases above the "G" in "Grateful"
