Up for auctions is a great piece of primitive American history . It is a fireplace trammel hook once used to hold pots inside of a cooking oven. I will be up front about this piece as I admit I do not know a lot about these kinds of things . My belief is that this trammel is from the 1700's . It is quite large and that would lead me to believe that this was from the much earlier larger size fireplaces more commonly used in older homes . Another reason is that this is one of the pieces that I have recently acquired from an estate and many pieces from that estate date back to the 1700's and very early 1800's . I do not claim to be a professional in this field this is my opinion. Anyone more knowledgeable please feel free to fill me in. All that being said. This is a wonderful fireplace trammel that would be at home in any collection. The measurements for this piece are 33.5" closed, 52.5" open, and the main piece is roughly 1.5" wide . It has 7 holes so that you can adjust the height to suit the fire and your cooking purpose. To me it looks like this trammel has seen plenty of use and is in wonderful condition for being over 200 years old . It is not rusted and not flimsy in anyway . Put it in your fireplace and it should last another 200 years easy . It makes me wish that I had a fireplace because if I did it would be hanging in it right now. You just do not come across these everyday and even on ebay ones this size rarely come up for auction. Now is your chance to add a great piece of history to your home and you can even still use it!!
