Offered is a wonderful, very rare and early wrought iron game rack. Circa 1750-1850, probably Pennsylvania or New England, and in a great small size. Measuring just 12 1/2 inches long this rack was obviously made for small game or fowl such as rabbits, pheasant or duck. The ten spikes measure just 2 1/2 inches each and are spaced fairly close. This is the only one like it that I have ever seen--rarer even than a good Dutch crown. I imagine that it could be used not only for the hanging of game, but also could be employed in the actual roasting process as well. Would look nice holding dried herbs or fruit. It is made of heavy guage hammered sheet iron with wrought iron spikes. Mounting holes are puched rather than drilled, and the spikes have a nicely done pegged and forged hammer weld. A very early item. I will offer this great piece of early hearth equipment with no reserve, and guarantee it to be as described so bid with confidence! Thanks for looking and good luck bidding!
