I'm no expert on inkwells, but this old guy would seem to be a desirable addition to any collection of figural examples of that field of collecting. He's made of either brass or a brass colored pot metal -- but the finish is in wonderful condition if the latter is the case. According to some online research that I've done, he's from the late 1800's and is pictured in Hunting's The Collectors World of Inkwells. No information about the manufacturer, or country of origin. The handsome fella measures just under 3" tall. His top is shaped like a leaf covered with hair, and is hinged to flip back. The glass insert bottle is not present, but those can be purchased to replace the original. The detail of this piece is absolutely amazing - you can see individual hairs, each tooth is outlined, and his toes are individually outlined. The tail in the back balances him and makes him sit more securely -- nobody wanted a bottle of ink tipping over! The one of these that I found online was for sale for well over $200. I'm starting this one at a fraction of that amount with NO RESERVE!
