Welcome to my auctions. All these items are from a private collection of bronze items and medals etc from the Bath area, UK. This auction is for an original 1851 Prize Medal from the Great Exhibition at Crystal Palace, London. Extremely rare and hardly come on the market for sale.It is marked on the front by the maker - Leonard C Wyon (see last pictures above), and also reads 'Royal Mint London 1851'.On the back it also says 'W.Wyon R.A' and 'Royal Mint' on the opposite side (see 11th picture above). It weighs approx. 274.3 gms and has a diameter of approx. 77 mm.Around the outer edge in capitals it is enscribed -Prize Medal of the Exhibition. Knight & Foster. Class XXII, which I have researched as within group 21 - 25 which was called 'Metallic, Vitreous, Ceramic Glass' category. In this category there were 312 British medals presented. I wonder how many are left?? I have taken many pictures above that I really hope you can see all what I have explained above plus the overall condition of the prize medal. Please remember, it was produced in 1851!The medal is in excellent condition for its age with a beautiful dark patina, but if you are being ultra fussy, slight nik on the edge, line on Victoria's neck and some slight rubbing to the highest points on the reverse. The pictures are extremely detailed, but if there is anything else read more
