What you are bidding on is... A LIONEL #56 LAMP POST FROM THE WARD KIMBALL COLLECTIONBEAUTIFULLY REPAINTED BY WARD!! A GREAT ITEM FOR YOUR LIONEL TRAIN COLLECTION! Up for auction is this Lionel #56 Lamp Post that came from Ward Kimball's collection via the Noel Barrett auction of his toys and trains in November of 2004. It is 7 3/4" high.Ward's collection was known far & wide to train & toy collectors but not everyone may know that his real claim to fame was as one of the truly GREAT Disney artists and animators. One thing for sure, and that is that Ward could draw and he could paint. He put his considerable artistic skills to work painting a handful of Lionel and American Flyer lamp posts of which the #56 pictured above was one. It appears that he used an air brush and gradually made the metallic paint lighter as he went from the bottom up. A astounding job as only an artist could do. I don't think you could find a more beautifully painted Lionel lamp post anywhere!This read more
