Old Hopi Indian Polychrome Basket - Bowl

c. 1920s, Fair Condition

Approx 5 1/2" deep x 9 1/2" diameter.

With fine natural colored and dyed yucca fibers, and a relatively tight weave on a sturdy bundle foundation.

Condition: Shows general wear as pictured, especially at the rim. Approximately half of the stitches on the top rim finish are missing, the exterior base coils lack stitches in certain areas, and the exterior wall of the bowl is missing stitches in a few scattered areas, measuring anyw from three to six stitches wide (about 1/4" to 3/8" wide). The interior bowl stitches have been wonderfully preserved. (Please view photos for more detail).

Despite the coil stitch breaks in the noted areas, the bundle foundation still remains extremely intact.

With its polychrome nature, and its nice size, this Hopi bowl makes a very pleasing display basket.
