Featured is a lovely OLD ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE WARE, purple and white transferware plate. This plate is a souvenir plate of the GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS. It has beautiful picture of the CHIMNEY TOP PEAKS on the front surrounded by what I believe to be dogwood around the edge. Also on the front border are four smaller pictures indicative of the area. They are, starting at the top and going clockwise around the edge: NATIVE BLACK BEAR, CHEROKEE INDIAN CHIEF STANDING DEER, TWO ROCK FALLS and GIANT POPLARS 10 FEET IN DIAMETER. The purple and white transfer is absolutely stunning! The back reads GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, Old English Staffordshire Ware, Jonroth England, Made in Staffordshire, England, By The Adams Potteries. Designed and Imported By R. W. Hanlon, Knoxville, Tenn. In the scroll reads: "Authorized by Act of Congress in 1926, and Established in 1931, This National Park contains 450,000 Acres of primeval forests, massive mountains, deep valleys, dashing streams, water falls, and flora and fauna unequaled in any area of same size in North America." Starting in the 1909, Jonroth imported souvenir plates, often manufactured by Adams, from Staffordshire, England similar to Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Rowland & Marsellus and other flow blue plates. The plate measures 10" in diameter and is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, fleabites, hairlines, browning, crazing utensil marks or repairs. Insurance recommended at buyer's option.
