Commemorative Set of Stamps PARTHENON MARBLES

The ParthenonMarbles , known also as the Elgin Marbles are a collection of classical Greek marble sculptures (mostly by Phidias and his pupils), inscriptions and architectural members that originally were part of the Parthenon and other buildings on the Acropolis of Athens.

On 15/3/1984 the Greek Post released a commemorative set of stamps titled " Parthenon Marbles" (picture number 4) , consisting of 5 stamps with the following topics: Selene Horse (east pediment), Dionysos (east pediment), the three Goddesses Estia, Dioni, Aphrodite (east pediment), Ilissos (west pediment) & Lapithes and Centaurus (south metope) .

Recently, the Greek Post re- released in limited numbers (ONLY 1.000 sets) , this series of commemorative stamps of 1984 , but this time in gold plated bronze .

The 5 excellent gold plated stamps are mounted radially in a luxurious casket ,as seen in picture number 1.

Casket: 17 x 13.5 x 3 cm

Stamps (5): 3.7 x 2.8 cm (equal with the prototype stamps)
