This wonderful antique handwoven wool apron is part of a Sarakatsani woman's costume (possibly from Thrace). It is heavy for its size (18" by 18"...and 14" across at the top), very densely woven with a crocheted heavy lace border. There are dense, heavy cord black strips alternated with the dark blue wool sections....and gold colored embroidery as additional decoration. It is quite a rare piece. It goes with the Sarakatsani socks I also have listed on Ebay. As in many antique costume pieces there are a few small moth holes in the wool, which can be seen in the photos. They are not noticible when worn with the full costume, or can be repaired, if desired, by the buyer. I only ship to the USA...sorry . Thank you for looking !
