Greek Greece American sculptor, ceramicist, dancer Cathy Hios 1915-2006 sister of noted artist Michael Lekakis and married to another noted artist Theo Hios 1908-1998 born in Sparta Greece died in New York City. Sculpture in clay titled "Samos" abstract representation of an ancient votive object or sails in the wind?. Measures 7 3/4" High X 4 1/4" deep X 7 " wide and is intact signed Cathy Hios on base. Especially admired by her peeers for her unique play with forms with the duality theme and classic Greek influence. Her art is in the permanent art collection of The American College of Greece, the collection of Takis Efstathion and represented in Greece by Efstathion Fine Arts and formely in New York at the Tchernov Gallery in Manhattans 57th Street (closed in 1975).
