Description: I am thrilled to offer tonight two early 19th c. transferware pieces, the so-called Romantic Period, that are brave survivors of a child's tea or coffee set! Featured in this auction is a truly miniature creamer with transfer figural decoration in a beautiful green color - it helps think of spring when we are, again, burried in snow... The creamer measures 2 1/2" high (base to tip of thumbrest) and the distance between the spout and the handle is 3 1/2". Despite its diminutive size, it has all the characteristics of its "adult"-size counterpart: nicely potted earthenware shape, a curvaceous body that sits on a low pedestal base, a graceful applied handle embellished with floral embossing. Done in a soothing shade of teal, the main decorative scene is repeated twice on the creamer's wide sides and it depicts two proud peackocks, one of them with its tail fully open for the world to admire, sitting on a pedestal at the edge of, possibly, a luscious private garden. A wide river separates them from a walled city in the distance with imposing mansions and arched bridges. The decoration continues along the spout's outer and part of its inner perimeter as well as on the back of the handle with a stylized floral band.
