***STUNNING PRINCE MATCHABELLI "WIND SONG" MINI PERFUME BOTTLE***“”GREEN ENAMEL ON GLASS IN THE SHAPE OF A CROWN MADE IN FRANCE!!!”” ~RARE GLASS CROSS STOPPER~ This is a beautiful Prince Matchabelli mini figural perfume bottle in the shape of a crown. It was made for the fragrance "Wind Song" and was trademarked in 1953/1954. This rare bottle is marked "BOTTLE MADE IN FRANCE" (see Photo) imbeded into the glass which is somewhat unusual since some are not marked. These marking make this a much rarer bottle to have for your collection. The stunning vintage bottle has green enamel over glass with beautiful gold trim on the outline of the crown. On top of the crown bottle it has the famous signature Matchabelli gold gilded glass stopper in the shape of a cross. I believe this bottle is one of the harder to find bottles in the Matchabelli line. Sometime in the 1950's they started using plastic caps instead of the more expensive glass cross stoppers so I am sure this is one of the older bottles that was first made. Prince Matchabelli is a famous perfume line. It was first designed by Prince Georges V. Matchabelli who was an amateur chemist. Georges Matchabelli was a Georgian prince and Georgian ambassador to Italy, but fled the Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States after the Russian Revolution. In New York City he and his wife, Princess Norina Matchabelli (an actress whose stage name was Maria Carmi), opened a small antiques shop Le Rouge et le Noir at 545 Madison Avenue. They later established the Prince Matchabelli Perfume Company in 1926. Perfumes were personally blended for clients by Prince Matchabelli. The company became known for the many color-coded, crown-shaped bottles designed by Norina after the Matchabelli crown and introduced in 1928 with labels on the underside. Georges died in 1935 and in 1936 Princess Matchabellie sold the company to perfume manufacturer Saul Ganz for $250,000. In 1958, Prince Matchabelli became a division of Chesebrough–Pond's. In 1987, Chesebrough–Ponds was acquired by Anglo-Dutch company Unilever. As of 1986 the division had annual domestic sales of about $140 million, according to company officials. In 1993 the Chesebrough-Ponds division of Unilever sold the Prince Matchabelli brands to Parfums de Coeur. I believe it is still operating today. Prince Matchabelli is one of the most successful perfume brands of the 1900's with no less than 52 different fragrances. Wind Song is one of its most popular fragrances. This bottle does not have any of the fragrance left in it, but if it did, it would be very strong and could not be worn. When perfume bottles sit for many years with fragrance in them they concentrate and become extremely strong. THIS IS A FABULOUS PRINCE MATCHABELLI PERFUME BOTTLE AND WILL GO TO THE HIGH BIDDER, SO DON’T MISS IT!!! This rare bottle is in EXCELLENT condition with no chips, cracks, or flakes. The stopper does not come off easily and I did not want to force it. It is straight and I am sure it could be opened by running hot water over it or putting it in the freezer. This one is almost like new with little wear to the enamel and very ;ittle of the gold paint is worn off the high points and on the cross stopper (see photos). Please look at the photos, this is a near perfect bottle. It really is a beautiful little bottle. Photo may be brighter than the actual item. This mini piece measures approx. 1 7/8 inches tall to the top of the stopper and 1 1/2 inches across at the shoulders.
