Green Turquoise Stabilized Rough Rock Stone A piece of green Turquoise from China. Piece is stabilized (impregnated with a resin) for easy cutting. Turquoise is considerably softer than quartz and thus is usually treated in some way for stability. Probably one of the most recognized semiprecious gemstones in existence, turquoise has been popular since prehistoric times. This stone is a hydrated aluminum copper phosphate that often contains iron. Its name comes from French pierre turquoise, meaning "Turkish stone," a reference to w Persian material passed on its way to Europe. It occurs naturally in shades ranging from sky blue to grey-green, usually in locations w copper is hidden in the soil in high concentrations. The blue color is caused by copper, while the green color is caused by iron or chromium. The name means Turkish stone, because the trade route that brought it to Europe used to come via Turkey. A pure blue stone is very rare, most Turquoise has inclusions of its host or matrix rock. This piece weighs 7 oz and is more than 3 inches by 2.5 inches. The back is v shaped and 1.75 inches at its thickest. Shipping terms: I prefer to ship Priority, but will ship anyway you want if you contact me.
