Greg Shooner XL Redware Charger - Potter at Wheel - Folk Art This special, one of a kind hand-thrown charger was made by Greg at Turtlecreek Pottery in 1991. Measuring 13" in diameter; the base (bottom) measures 8". You will find great workmanship and quality in all Shooner pieces; however, I think this one is extra special. Adapted from an earthenware dish made in Frechen, Northern Germany, in 1800-1860, this "thrown on the wheel" charger depicts a potter at the kick wheel, and from the window you can see a Bee Hive Kiln, complete with a potter's helper. The background color is a very dark brown. Pale yellow slip trailing is on the border and near the middle of the rim - also note the dark green wavy line between the yellow slip. Sgraffito depicts the floor and rock wall, tables, kick wheel, as well as the window overlooking the outdoor kiln. The potter is also in sgraffito with yellow slip on shirt & cap, green pants and brown and yellow suspenders. Truly a RARE, one of a kind special piece of folkart. What was on Greg's mind when he threw and decorated this charger . . was this a self portrait? This would be a very special addition to your collection! Lead-based glaze, chips and aging are done intentionally by Greg to give this special piece an early appearance. NOT for food use. US Bidders/Buyer ONLY. Payment by Paypal preferred and payment MUST BE MADE within three (3) days of winning bid. Shipping is expedited once payment is received. Insurance is included in shipping charge. US Bidders/Buyer ONLY - Hawaii or Alaska, please request shipping quote. Auction starts at $9.99 and t is no reserve . Good luck!
