This is a very Historic Navajo Rug woven by Toadlena Master weaver Iona Lewis. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 98. See her obituary below.. The picture of her is from Mark Winters book in the year 2000.This rug measures 37 x 54 and is in Excellent condition. There is no fading, stains, bleeding, moth damage and the selvage is all in excellent shape. The only flaw I could find is one small snag, which is hardly noticeable and can be seen in the white border in the next to last picture .It has a very fine tight weave, with approximately 60 wefts per inch. Iona took this weaving to the very first Crown Point Auction in 1968 where it was purchased. The original tag is still stapled to the rug and has never been removed. It has never been on the wall or used as a floor rug. Carefully stored since 1968. This is the perfect weaving for a high end collector from a weaver that grew up in the Toadlena area and became one of the best. Very few of these old rugs are still available to purchase. This is truly a piece of history and is a bargin at my opening bid. You will easily pay double this at the Toadlena Trading Post. I have over 1000 transactions with 100 percent feedback over 15 years on Ebay so .Iona Chischelly Lewis, one of the greatest Two Grey Hills Navajo weavers to ever live, passed away peacefully on Oct. 1, 2014, in Albuquerque. read more
