Please note that I routinely combine shipping at reduced cost, for multiple cast iron auction wins, shipped in one well-packaged parcel via Federal Express, BUT PLEASE WAIT FOR MY INVOICE. Originally established in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1865 as the partnership of Selden and Griswold, and chartered in 1887 as the Griswold Manufacturing Company, Griswold is known to have produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America, right up to their disappearance in 1957. Meticulously cleaned, fully restored, and verified as authentic, this is vintage GRISWOLD as it was meant to look! When this less commonly found skillet left the Griswold factory, it was NOT dusty or dirty, was NOT encrusted with coagulated grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for age, and normal use, now once again looks much as it did so many decades ago! In separate auctions, I am listing the complete progression (sizes 3 through 10) of Griswold Large Logo/Smooth Bottom Skillets , and this auction is for a VERY GOOD natural Iron finish Griswold #4 Large Logo/"EPU" Smooth Bottom Skillet, in GOOD overall condition . This harder to find #4 skillet, produced sometime between 1930 and 1939 for use on both electric and gas ranges, measures 7.0" rim-to-rim, 7.75" spout-to-spout, 11.25" rim-to-handle-tip, is 1.625" deep, and has a cooking surface diameter of 5.5". The handle top is inscribed with the size number " 4", and the exterior bottom is deeply incised with the phrase " CAST IRON SKILLET ", the size number " 4", the 3.0" double circle/cross Griswold Large Logo , the address " ERIE P A., U . S. A. ", and has the Griswold pattern number " 702 ", with maker's mark " A" following. Nicer than it looks at first glance, this little frying pan, having the warm, rich, dark color of well-maintained vintage cast iron, has no chips, cracks, rust, warping, bowing, or repairs, will sit absolutely flat on any hard, level surface, and rings nicely like a bell when tapped, but does have noticeable finish wear, and some very light scratches on the exterior. This useful small cooking pan has been thoroughly cleaned of all coagulated grease and carbon, of any corrosion, and lightly pre-seasoned with food-grade vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. In very nice condition, and VERY SMOOTH to the touch, despite a few tiny utensil marks and light scratches in evidence on the interior, the manufacturer's milling marks are still very lightly visable on the entire cooking surface, and more so on the interior sidewalls and in the spouts.
