Professionally cleaned, fully reconditioned and verified as authentic, this is vintage GRISWOLD as it was meant to look!! When this fine 50+ year old #80 cast iron Double Skillet Set left the Griswold factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for active and frequent kitchen use, now once again looks much like it did so many decades ago! This auction is for a VERY GOOD Griswold #80 cast iron ( Iron Finish ) smooth bottom Double Skillet Set, with the Regular #8 Top Skillet, well mated to its matching Deep #8 Bottom Skillet, both in VERY GOOD overall condition . Initially established in Erie, Pennsylvania around 1865 as the partnership of Selden and Griswold, and chartered in 1887 as the Griswold Manufacturing Company, Griswold produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America, right up to their disappearance in 1957. This Double Skillet Set variety was produced sometime during the 1940's and 1950's . One of Griswold's most versatile cooking appliances, the Double Skillet combines the benefits of a Deep Skillet with a Regular skillet, w one skillet can serve as the skillet lid for the other, and tips up out of the way on its hinge to attend to cooking food, and when the two are latched together, forms a 5" deep Dutch oven for stove top cooking, or oven baking! This nice #8 Bottom Skillet , measures 10.5" rim-to rim, 11.25" spout-to-spout, 16.0" female hinge part-to handle tip, is 3.0" deep, and has a cooking surface diameter of 8.5". The handle top is incised with the size number " 8", and the exterior bottom is inscribed with the size number " NO. 8 ", the 1.75" ( Block Style ) Griswold Small Logo , the address " ERIE PA ", and has the pattern number " 1102 " with maker's mark " B" beneath . This fine matching #8 Top Skillet , measures 10.5" rim-to-rim, 11.25" spout -to-spout, 15.5" from male hinge part-to handle tip, has a 10.25" milled inner lip that fits nicely within the rim of its matching #8 Deep Skillet with no rocking or wobble, is 2.0" deep, and has a cooking surface diameter of 8.5". The handle top is incised with the size number " 8", and the exterior bottom is inscribed with the set number " NO 80 ", the 1.75" ( Block Style ) Griswold Small Logo , the address " ERIE PA ", and has the pattern number " 1103 " with maker's mark " A" beneath . Both pans are well cast of fine grained iron with minimal exterior casting roughness, and have only a very few casting bumps, dimples or flow marks in evidence. These quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry pans have no chips, cracks, pits, rust, or repairs, both pans sit absolutely flat on any hard, level surface, and ring nicely, like a bell, when tapped, but the bottom skillet does have a very slight upward bow to the cooking surface, and the top skillet does have an array of tiny but noticable utensil marks on the cooking surface, . Still very collectible to be sure, and having a warm, rich, dark color, this well-maintained cooking skillet set has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent and active use has totally worn away the manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT" from the polished interior of the Deep Skillet, but are still very clearly visable on the interior of the Top Skillet, and despite use wear, and the tiny but noticable utensil marks in the Top skillet, the cooking surfaces is still " SURPRISINGLY SMOOTH " to the touch, GREAT for cooking or baking, and virtually non-stick!
