I have up for auction an ORIGINAL U.S.G.I. M1950 Griswold bag. The Griswold bag was developed during WW2, for a Paratrooper to carry his rifle in during parachute jumps. The bag was strapped to his parachute harness under his reserve chute for easy access. The first model required the rifle to be taken apart, then reassembled after the Paratrooper reached the ground. This model was soon modified to fit a fully assembled M1 Garand, saving valuable time getting the rifle into action. The bag was redesignated: "Case, Parachutists Individual Weapons, M-1950."The bag was also used to carry weapons other than the M1 Garand, such as the M1919A4 light machine gun. The design of the bag was so successful it outlived the M1 Garand and even it's successor, the M14 rifle. A different version is in use today by American Airborne troops more than 50 years after it's initial standardization. The bag is made of heavy cotton duck and is wool lined. T is one tear and two small holes in the outer fabric of the bag and neither goes all the way into the bag. These places can be seen in the second pic. The wool lining looks brand new, with no stains. The zipper is not missing any teeth and works fine. This bag has NOT been 'demilitarized.' It still has the buckle on the back for hooking to the parachute harness. Another seller recently had a 'reproduction' read more
