Professionally cleaned, fully restored and verified as authentic, this is vintage GRISWOLD as it was meant to look!! When this fine old #9 cast iron griddle left the Griswold factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for fairly routine kitchen use, now once again looks very much as it did so many decades ago! In addition to my previously listed 7 griddles, I finished restoring two more, and this one, up for bid is a VERY GOOD Griswold #9(Iron Finish) marked "PURITAN" cast iron Handle-Style griddle, in VERY GOOD overall condition . Established in Erie, Pennsylvania around 1865, the Griswold Manufacturing Company produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America, right up to their disappearance into bankruptcy in 1957. This griddle variety was produced from the 1930's to the 1950's, and was most often retailed by Sears Roebuck and Company. The second largest size of the five sizes of Griswold Handle-Style Griddles, this beautiful #9 griddle measures 10.25" rim-to-rim, 14.5" from rim to handle tip, at 0.625" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 9.75", and has a exterior bottom diameter of 10.75". This fine vintage cooking griddle is incised its exterior bottom with the name " PURITAN ", the numeral " 9" , and bears the pattern number " 1508 ". Very well cast for this era, of fine grained iron with minimal casting roughness, and no meaningful casting bumps, dimples or flow marks, this quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry griddle has no chips, cracks, pits, rust, warping, bowing, or repairs, sits flat on any level surface, and rings nicely when tapped. Very collectible to be sure, and having a warm, rich uniform dark color, this useful cooking griddle has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent use of this frying griddle has partially worn the manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT" from the polished cooking surface, and despite the presence of a few tiny utensil marks and some surface discoloration, has created a cooking finish that is VERY SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
