GENUINE GRISWOLD RABBIT CAKE MOLD You are bidding on a genuine Griswold cast-iron rabbit cake mold, c. 1940. It is marked "Griswold, Erie" on the "ears" of the mold (not the ears of the rabbit!) as well as mold numbers 862 & 863. The mold is in perfect condition, no rust or cracks. Indeed, it was last used at Easter 2007. But, if you simply want it for display, that is understandable, too. I suspect that, if you plan to use it for baking, it should be thoroughly washed (I would suggest using a stiff bristle brush (the highs and lows are susceptible to the adnce of crumbs); and, like all cast-iron cookware, properly seasoned before use. It is, however, clean now. I've been using it as a bookend since using it last! Makes a great treat at Easter...particularly for the kids! For the best results, Griswold molds require (?) a particular recipe, although I suspect that t are other recipes which would work equally well. Nonetheless, I'll include a copy of Griswold's recipe for your consideration...the hint alone of putting toothpicks in the ears before baking is a great one, unless you're into floppy eared bunnies! Hate to part with it, but I'm too old (how does one accumulate so much stuff?) to do much cooking now, and my grandkids have outgrown the whimsy. I also have an equally fine Griswold lamb mold (another bookend) , which I'll be listing soon. I represent any listed item honestly (check my feedback) and do not accept returns unless t is some gross misrepresentation (unlikely) , so if you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to ask them before bidding!
