This lot is being sold in compliance with Directors Order 210 and revisions to Directors Order 210 of the USFWS issued June 26, 2014 authorizing the interstate sale of objects containing African elephant ivory lawfully imported prior to January 18, 1990 as verified by a datable photograph of the owner with the item, a dated letter or other document referring to the item.
Dating of this object was by documentary proof provided by the consignor and or supplemented by art historical references to other similar dated material. Chinese style carvings made in the pre- CITES convention period, containing or made of ivory were created from African elephant ivory sources as documented by numerous accounts.
