Family archive NY & CT stampless folded letters (total of 8) Written between 1818 and 1846 to Elizabeth Gregory from her grandson & others Amazing content, Scarlet Fever Death, Deadly factory explosion, Church News, Northern Lights Etc..... Marvelous grouping of eight (8) stampless folded letters from 1818 through the 1840s to Elizabeth Gregory at several locations in New York and Connecticut. Elizabeth's husband was Elias Gregory. Here are brief descriptions in no particular order: 1841 Syracuse, NY from her grandson Henry Gregory who writes about a factory shop that blew up, killing 25 people and wounding others. Addressed to Elizabeth in New Canaan, Fairfield County, Connecticut. NEW YORK postmark and 6 cent rate. 1837 Homer, NY - also from Henry Gregory who writes about his desire to become a minister, also saw the aurora borealis (northern lights). Sent to Elizabeth in Norwalk, CT in the care of Charles Thomas. Black Homer CDS and 18 3/4 cent rate. 1835 Homer, NY - Gregory writes that he has a new minister position at Winnebago Lake - other news too. No postmarks that I see. Sent to New Canaan, CT. 1818 - this is the early letter - written by Sarah Bonney in New Canaan CT to Elizabeth at Aurelius, NY. Writer talks about the formation of a "Lydian Society" at their church to raise money to support "heathen children" in Bombay (India). This is a long, detailed and awesome early letter, deeply religious, much church and local news. No postmarks. 1822 Geneva, NY - another nicely written letter from Henry to his grandmother in Aurelius, NY. Hand carried. 1822 long letter written by Abby Willow, the niece of Elizabeth - don't see the location of the writer. Excellent and informative letter - more study would probably give you an idea - suspect upstate NY like others. Hand carried to Elizabeth in Aurelius in the care of her husband Elias. 1826 Henry writes his grandmother from New York City - describes the city, the "infinite number of faces...." great letter. Sent to Wilton, CT with a red New York City postmark. 1834 This letter is the only written by Ezna Gregory in Brooklyn, NY who writes her grandmother Elizabeth in Norwalk, CT - sad news about their son in the process of dying from scarlet fever. Very newsy letter. We tried to show a variety of angles in the scans. A great grouping that needs more research. Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra. We're members of the American Philatelic Society.
