The Gruen Watch Company was a fantastic and forward looking company that was constantly on the edge of innovation. In the late 1930's they re-tooled to make long rectangular watches that were the envy of the world. The curved plate movement that was their crown jewel was called the "Curvex". These watches are very sought after and command very nice prices. Gruen also made long rectangulars that had the conventional flat movements but had curved cases. The movements in these watches were wonderful performers and the price point was much better. This is one of those watches! Today you can buy a watch like this for less than half of what a "Curvex" of the same size would cost. Notice how nice the two-tone silvered dial is. Depending upon how the light hits it it looks alternately light and dark in two separate areas. The seconds bit at the six o'clock position echoes the case shape and gives the dial a classic countenance. This example is in excellent cosmetic, and mechanical, condition. The case is yellow gold filled and it has a stainless back for long wearing hypo-allergenic use. The movement is a fifteen jewel beauty that is circa 1939. It is running like a top and comes with our one year parts and labor warranty.
