Up for auction is a rare piece of American Petrolina, but if you have clicked , it's because you already know this. What we have is a double-side, porcelain-covered, flat-bottomed, metal Gulf Supreme Motor Oil sign. I have been told that what makes this sign so rare is because of its flat bottom. I have extensively Goggled this item and have not found any signs like this one. What I have found is that the two-toned blue lettering is indicative of Gulf's signs during the 1920's & '30's. T is no manufacturer's stamp or logo on the sign. If you know anything about this sign, please share with us. Again, this is a double-sided, porcelain-covered metal sign. I consider it in good condition. It does have various "hickies" (porcelain chips), scratches, dirt, and overspray. It has no rust holes, dents, or creases. It has four mounting holes. Overall, it has a very nice patina to it - very vintage looking. My guess is it could be cleaned up considerably with superfine steel wool or an automotive polish/cleaner wax. That's what's so nice about these porcelain signs. I'll leave the clean-up up to you if that's what you want, but I prefer "the look" that only 70 or so years can give it. Please look closely at all twelve pictures. This item is sold "as is". I do guarantee the authenticity of this sign, as it was hanging as intended for several decades at an Gulf station right in Illinois. The sign weighs in at approximately 17.5 lbs. It is right at 36" tall and 30" wide. Please add a few inches each way, and 4 lbs or so for packing material when calculating shipping cost. This item is being listed for a co-worker of mine and will be shipped from Jacksonville, IL. 62650. Shipping insurance is recommended. Local pick-up can be arranged. I do have a reserve on this - but I'm just taking a stab at it, as again, I really don't know what I have , so I'll let you guys bid the sign for what it is. If my reserve is not met, please contact me at the end of the auction and I'll entertain all offers. What are you waiting for... let's have some fun... bidding starts at only $1.00! Key search words: gas, oil, motor, fuel, gas station, filling station, service station, petroline, old, antique, vintage, rare, barn find, advertising, tin sign Not: Texaco, Shell, Mobile, Exxon, Sinclair, Sunoco, DX, Phillips, Imperial, Standard Oil, Amoco Thanks, and good luck... bid like you need this sign hanging in your garage!! NOTE: I DO HAVE A RESERVE ON THIS ITEM. Somehow the option to select/set a reserve when listing this did not come up. Now that t are bids on this, EBAY won't let me select a reserve. If bidding near the end of the auction doesn't meet my reserve, I will pull the listing before the end of the auction. Also-- I'm not sure about the shipping calculator. Shipping will be actual UPS Ground charges to your destination. Thanks (and sorry). Reserve HAS BEEN met! Thanks guys. Whoever wants this piece of history most will soon have this sign hanging in their garage (or antique shop with a new price tage on it). Hope you've had fun with this auction.
