Outstanding vintage (c.1912) Gustav Stickley Footstool #300, very large and heavy form. Remarkably, I bought this from the child of the original owner who remembered it well as a fixture in her house as a kid. The medium fumed quartered oak finish is original, as are the full set of copper pyramid tacks. This woman was wealthy, and she eventually had it professionally reupholstered with a beautiful tan leather that matched the original. The workmanshio included period correct blue steel tacks on the underside, cotton batt padding, heavy burlap strapping supports, and a very heavy linen liner that is extremely close to the original liner that (again remarkably) she kept because it bore the original Stickley "Craftsman" paper label (it is included). I mention all of this because so many upholstery jobs are so badly done that one is forced to spend money to have pieces redone to correct for cheap and shabby jobs. Construction is mortise and pinned, and absolutely rock solid. Leg bottoms show good bevel, indicating little abuse over the years. T is an insignificant and hardly noticeable shallow chip near the bottom of one leg which along with other typical nicks are shown in the pictures. It is in very good shape overall, not the usual beat up stool that you see on ebay all the time. I have included pictures of the stool as clearly catalogued as the #300, no question about it. The dimensions are 20" W x 16" D x 15" H, again just as catalogued. It is a truly gorgeous example of the early arts and crafts furniture movement, made by its most illustrious proponent, Gustav Stickley. I will carefully package this piece to arrive safely to your home.
