Up for auction is a Gutta Percha Union Case in EXCELLENT condition with no exceptions. The hinges are secure, the double latches are in place, however, they do not lock in place when closed. The case is 5" X 4". The daguerreotypes (tintypes) are about 4" X 3". They are very clear images of a Yankee soldier and perhaps his wife (she does appear to be wearing a wedding band on her left hand). From my research, I would say that the soldier is donned in an infantry frock coat. The back of the chair in the image of the charming lady seems to have been tinted blue. Because this item is in extraordinary condition, I did not and will not remove the tintypes to view any trademarks or writing. That will be up to the highest bidder. The white mark on the front of one of the pictures is a camera glare, not a flaw in the case. Shipping for this item is 9.00 which will include insurance. T is a very fair reserve on this awesome piece of history. Good luck and thank you for visiting.
