Hallmark Ornament 5th in the Sky's the Limit Series #5-Gee Bee R-1 Super Sportster 2001 Ornament You are bidding on a Hallmark Ornament from 2001. This is the fifth in the Sky's the Limit Series introduced by Hallmark. You are bidding on the Gee Bee R-1 Super Sportster. This would be a great addition to any Hallmark or Plane collection. In the 1930s, National Air Races were a top spectator sport. The Thompson Trophy Race, which featured planes flying a closed-circuit 10-mile course around 50-foot-high pylons, was one of the most prestigious and drew as many as 100,000 fans. Few airplanes were more respected or recognized than the Gee Bee racers from Granville Brothers Aircraft. In 1932, the Gee Bee R-1 Super Sportster won the Thompson Trophy with famed pilot Jimmy Doolittle at the controls. In time trials preceding the event, he set a landplane speed record of more than 29 mph. This Keepsake Ornament is the fifth in the series of finely detailed replicas of historic aircraft. This ornament is from my personal collection. I have collected Hallmark ornaments since the 80's. The box is in near-mint to excellent condition. T is a minute amount of corner rub. The price tag is intact. Many sellers would call this box mint, I don't. Please see pictures for actual condition. Condi tion is an opinion which we each have when looking for our collectibles. The book value is $94.00. I used the Hallmark Keepsake Ornament Value Guide from 2006 to get the book value. Nicki Pierce is the Editor and Bangzoom Publishers published the guide.
