Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Prince of Denmark with Decorations by John Austen ; Selwyn & Blount Ltd (London/1922); 1st trade/1st print; Book-VG/DJ-Poor; Quarto (4to); Hb- White cloth spine (smudged, rubbed), with black paper covered boards, gilt & aqua stamped decorations on the front cover, stamped glit lettering on the spine (all are bright, clean). Boards are slightly smudged,flat, and edgeworn, corners are rubbed with boards showing on both bottom corners & inside of top rear corner. The front inside hinge is cracked from little over half way down-widening as it progresses to the lowest edge. The front free endpage shows shadow of what appears to be laid-in paper (no longer available.) The spine is strong; Dj- Kraft w/black decorations & lettering, very heavily chipped (see photos), very fragile, spine semi-detached, the largest chips have the appearance of tears, top right front chip is triangular in shape -approx 6”x 3½”, lower front right chip is approx 5”x11/2”, lower left front chip wraps around/across spine- approx 5”x2” at it’s widest, lower left rear corner is approx 3”x2” at its widest, Brodart protected; 175pps-Heavy kraft paper, deckle edged, flat, clean, 20 lavish full page black & white illustrations, approx- 170 small black & white decorations & half-page illustrations; Turn of the century illustrator John Austen, heavily
