Gardes du Corps du Roi 1692-1830 Charles Vernier Print ca 1855 Last Vernier plate from this series that I have to offer:From Vernier's series "Costume de l'Armee Francaise" King's Body Guard 1690-1830, Plate #52 This is aa almost full margin copy in very good plus condition Very light toning and shallow discoloration on the top and bottom edges) of this desireable subject. Strong beautiful color. I refer you to Glasser's work on French prints for a fuller description. Stone lithograph, hand colored. Signed on the stone. Paris, Ambert. 11.25" X 16". Clear vibrant colors. "Costumes" is considered to be his "Primus Opus" as it tracks french uniforms by type of unit from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Vernier walked away from the military genre in the 1860's and pursued a successful "mainstream" art career until his death in the 1880's.
