The 1820-40’s a period of great change in men’s fashion, away went the breeches and tailed coats to be replaced with the romantic ideal of a gentleman, broad shoulders, narrow waits, shirts with tall standing collars and wide cravats, frock coats with shoulder lines falling low on the arm, waistcoats with shawl or notches collars fitting tightly at the wait (corsets were common), trousers replaced breeches, tall hats, hair with a prating a curled.

Two plates from Musee de Modes one shows gentlemen dressed for the horse riding at Longchamps the other set in a garden. The lady carries a riding crop but her dress hardly looks suitable for riding, in the background a servant approaches with a horse. Condition, both very good.
