This is a china thimble that has been covered with caned polymer clay. It is covered with caned slices of polymer clay - a combination of Fimo, Premo, Kato and/or Sculpey IIIs has been used. It is often made to look like the Italian millefiori glass. This thimble has an intricate design with a blending of purples fading to white with a deep maroon background as shown in the photo, highly unusual as is the intricate caned pattern. It is done in a Celtic Knot pattern, which looks a lot like a basketweave as well. It has been hand sanded and buffed to a satin smooth finish. All of the application, curing, and finishing to a smooth surface, has been done by hand. NO PAINT or decals are used in the creation of this thimble, all the color is from different colored clay. As you might imagine it is time intensive and requires a great deal of artistic labor and skill. It is a unique, one of a kind thimble and no two are alike. It is signed by the artist.
