HAND FORGED FIREPLACE CHAIN TRAMMEL ANTIQUE POT HOLDER This is and early style FIREPLACE CHAIN TRAMMEL. These would date in the early to mid 1800's, possibly older. They were hung on the fireplace hearth and used for raising and lowering your pot closer to the fire. They also may have been used for outside cooking when making apple sauce.Look at all the pictures for the detailing and the neat grain of the wrought iron. It was hand made from wrought iron and lightly and evenly rusted and pitted from many years in the weather. The chain has a nice vintage look to it and the links are nicely worn into each other.I cleaned off all the loose rust sealed it with an oil based sealer. This protects and retards future rust. The whole trammel is 48" long. The chain is close to 36" long and each link is around 2 3/4" tall and 1 1/2" wide. The "S" hook is 10" long. The large tring is 5" in diameter. Not all trammels hve the swivel at the ring which allowed the pot to be turned. The last picture shows how the pot hook was hooked to raise the pot to a higher position and away from the fire.xxx IMPORTANT DETAILS xxx 9/10/06Have fun bidding and good luck!
