Wikipedia reports that in 1994 there were 1.5 million ceramic artisans in the country, but only 50,000 left by 2006. That's a 96% decrease. Two of the major reasons for the decline are the cheap overseas imports flooding this market, and the labor drain of artisans to northern countries in the pursuit of a better economic future.
