ITEM: Original Hand Painted / Tinted Japanese Albumen Photograph, Japan circa 1885 - 1895 by unknown photographer. This photograph is pubished in the Nagasaki University Albumen Database and attributed to Kazumasa Ogawa but I do not think that is accurate. CAPTION: None . CONDITION : Good. No rips, tears, creases, repairs, or folds. Some fading and loss of clarity and/or contrast, some spotting. No color shift. Scan accurately conveys the condition of the photograph. This photograph is unmounted. DESCRIPTION: Landscape view of Prince Hota's Garden, Tokyo. This is Shichishoen at Mukojima, the villa of the Hotta family, former feudal lords of the Sakura Clan. The villa was owned by the family from 1868 to 1887. Of "kaiyushiki" (garden with a pond and promenade style), the garden was watered by the Sumida River and changed according to the tides. It was referred to as one of the best gardens in Tokyo. The people posing for the photograph are probably members of the Hotta family Please see our other Ebay listings.
