Handcrafted 24K GOLD INLAIDThis vintage decorative plate was originally purchased from Arribas Brothers, the jewelry store in Walt Disney World, Florida. The exact age of the item is unknown.The piece of paper taped to the back of the plate reads as follows:"The art of Damascene reached full development as an art form in Toledo, Spain 600 A.D. Damascene, named for its cute of origin, Damascus, is the art of engraving specially forged steel with precious metals, the most common being 24K gold. Toledo, Spain rapidly became famous throughout the old world for its beautifully engraved sword hits, weapons handles, and beautiful depictions of famous events in history. Throughout the centuries, Damascene has expanded more into objects d'art and the process has changed very little, being passed on from father to son in old world tradition. Special told chisel tiny lines and points a thousandth of an inch apart in the steel. Gold and silver hammered into thin sheets by the artisan are inlaid onto thin sheets are inlaid onto the metal. Meticulous care is of utmost importance since there is no tolerance for imperfection. As the final step, the entire work is dipped in a special solution.
