Beautiful Handel Lamp shade, circa 1906, with geometric metal overlay over colored slag glass. THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE SHADE ONLY.... BASE IS AVAILABLE ON ANOTHER AUCTION GOING THIS WEEK! This line was introduced by Handel in 1906 as the Teroca lamp series, designed to simulate the very expensive leaded glass lamps of the era. The entire frame is made of brass, with a nice original bronze looking patina. According to the Handel books and the Paul Crist book (and others) these were often marked with a small brass tag that was leaded in along one of the ribs that hold the slag glass panels into place. The tag is missing on this shade but it is guaranteed to be made by the Handel Company. I had a catalog showing this exact shade some years back when I first got the shade but I will be danged if I can find it anyw in my maze of reference material. I would greatly appreciate anyone out t that has a copy of it or something similar to send it to me at for my records. The quality construction of the frame and the 3 3/4" opening for the heat cap is consistant with Handel Lamp Co standards, as well as the design of the overlaping brick work on frame that they used on so many of their other shades. The shade is overall 20" wide by 8" deep. All the metal overlay is in excellent condition. One of the carmel panels and maybe one of the green smaller panel may have been replaced. It has a different color when viewed from the inside of the shade, but when lit... or not lit, it does not look different from the outside of the shade. T appears to be a re-solder joint near the bottom webbing near that panel, but very well done. One of the green pieces of slag glass looks like it had more red paint added to the roses, but again, it looks pretty good when lit. I took a close up picture for your review. You can see in the picture that t is a slight mis-align of the paint and the overlay. You really have to be looking for this under bright light so it never botd me when I used it. If the light is off, you can't see the difference unless you know it is t! Well should look so good at over 100 years old! ! ! It is a BEAUTY and if you are interested in the base it is shown on in some of the pictures, please see my other auction for the three griffin lamp base going this week. Please email me if you have any questions or need more pictures. T are no returns on this item unless it is significantly different than my description so please ask all your questions up front. I am glad to talk with you. Shipping for this shade, double boxed is $75.00 plus insurance. Paypal is great or contact me at the email above. Many thanks and good bidding. The free listing tool.
