BEAUTIFUL, STRIKING FRENCH-MADE DRESSER TO SUIT ANY COUNTRY HOUSE This is a lovely and very unusual piece of furniture which we have owned for about 15 years. I bought it from a couple who were renovating an old farmhouse in France which came partly-furnished. I don't know a lot about it, but having looked at similar pieces on the internet, it is likely to have been made in France the mid to late 1800s. The style is very charming but rustic, and slightly naive in some respects, so I think it would have been made for a farmhouse rather than an up-market buyer in a grand mansion. Having said that, it is gorgeous. The colour of the wood (not sure what wood) is rich and warm and it is very tactile. I love the detail on the top, with the scalloped edges and finials. Talking of finials, there has been some damage to the one on the right of the picture. It must have been knocked off when moved at one of its previous homes. I've been told that a good carpenter could easily make another one, based on the design of the undamaged one on the left. Alternatively, you could decide to take both off, because they sit way above most people's heads, so you wouldn't see any marks. There is a spacious cupboard with a single shelf, plus two drawers. The drawers have rather quaint little knobs which lift up for you to pull. All in all, a beautiful read more
